When you make a new option, you make the world better

Drake is, by far, the best-selling artist in hip-hop and rap in the past decade. But there’s plenty of space for everyone else. The world is better with other people’s art—Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Tyler, the Creator.

The best part is all of those artists lean into being themselves. They don’t try to pretend to be someone else, unless pretending is a part of their personality and brand.

That same principle applies to you. Don’t pretend to be someone else, or pattern yourself after someone else too closely.

The world is better when you show up as you, do the hard work of working through your life experiences and expressing yourself, the painful work of refining it, and then the courageous work of showing it to people.

In other words, when you make a new option, and show up to the marketplace with it.
