I once heard a CEO of a construction company describe his buildings as three dimensional business cards.
It was a great way of thinking about work, and emphasizing why it’s important to do a good job on everything.
When a prospective client sees the work you did for somebody else, even if they’re not on the market, they’ll be curious about who did it.
Your work just became your three-dimensional business card.
If you’re early into your entrepreneurship journey, this is a helpful way to think about business cards and promotion.
Sure, if you’re attending events, go get the paper business cards printed. But also remember that the most powerful sign of social proof is in doing good work.
When it’s tangible, make sure people can easily find out that your company did the work. Develop your signature, so people don’t even need to ask.
Or if you don’t do that, tell other people about it yourself. Find something you can point to.
(It can also be a good idea to initiate the work for yourself first.)
