One way to make your work easier is to constantly share updates about it. Rituals like standups are built to facilitate and encourage this.
You want to constantly get feedback from people and show them how you’re moving along—even if it’s just to make sure that the final work doesn’t deviate too far from the vision.
Don’t let these updates creep into reveals. If you’re just following up a meeting with notes and next steps, do just that—there’s no need to beef the notes up or make anything better. And even if there is an imperfection, that’s a good thing, because it snaps you out of your perfectionism. If you haven’t had a chance to implement something new yet, then take five minutes to make an update—what meetings did you have that will add value to what you’re doing? What paper prototype can you draw up to improve on something?
If you misunderstood something, somebody will clarify it for you—which is exactly what you want to happen now, not in the future after you’ve done all the work.
This communication work—and yes, it can be hard work—is worth it.
