The direction of your work will be constrained by the people you’re talking to and the projects you’re doing right now.
If you’re forecasting your path and don’t like where it’s going, you need to talk to people who have taken a different path, and change the projects you’re participating in.
Start building new relationships. Ask for small amounts of time, perhaps even 15 minutes every few weeks. It’s enough to catch up on what’s happening.
Initiate new projects. Pay for them out of your own pocket. At work, get coffee or eat lunch with the people you find interesting. Spend any extra efforts you have with the teams and projects you find interesting.
