Writing is transference of energy

When you’re editing, consider how the order of information can shift the energy of the work.

You can do this starting at the most zoomed out: at a section level, then paragraph level, then sentence level, then individual word level.

Some sections will need more love than others.

You’ll need to cut some turns of phrase that you love in order to ultimately serve the piece—to make sure it’s not leaking energy out.

If you’re procrastinating on it—or if you’re not loving it—you need to either find a way to make it interesting to you, or to shelf it and work on something else. When the latter is not feasible, you’ll need to work hard to shape it in a more energizing way.
