The vessel heuristic

What if, when you made art, you weren’t expressing yourself? What if you were a vessel for something greater to express themselves through?

“The human mind is literally an antenna,” Pharrell says. “It picks up waves and transmissions from the ultimate source, from the ether.”

“The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material,” is a quote often attributed to Michelangelo.

With this narrative, the pressure to make something great is not in your control or responsibility as an artist. It enables you to surrender—to put your ego aside, loosen up, and place your trust in the process.

If something comes out poorly, it just came out weird that day. And there will always be tomorrow.
