Over a decade ago, early in my career, I worked at an office in the Canadian Pacific Heritage Building in Toronto. I would often come across a film set with several iconic yellow New York City cabs in a quiet street nearby. I later found out it was the set of Suits.
The first season of Suits started in 2011, and the final season finished in 2019. I stopped watching somewhere in between all of that. Imagine my surprise when Suits became Netflix’s most streamed show when it was picked up in 2023, dethroning the sensational Squid Game. I didn’t even know at the time—although I found it strange that two of the lead actors, Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht, were on commercials.
The people managing this deal deserve a promotion. While Suits was great frontlist material from 2011–2014 (maybe), and sounds like a steady performer from 2014–2019, in Netflix’s network it successfully resurged as backlist material.
