Medium Day topics

Medium recently announced a call for Medium Day, which takes place August 12. When I wrote my first post for Medium, over a decade ago, I was in between graduating college and my first job at Pivotal Labs (and even tried to make Medium a part of its content strategy).

I received an invitation to submit speaking topics as a publication editor. I figured I’d workshop these in public:

  • Medium, for fun and profit: I’ll cover some lessons in this post, through the lens of personal fulfilment and monetary gain. I can discuss my writing practice—a significant part of which took place at Medium!—and how it contributes to my life, and many career opportunities including my current role at Figma as a content strategist on its editorial team.
  • How to expand an article into a book: I can walk through expanding one of my early viral articles at Medium into my book, Creative Doing
  • Medium, for the 99%: I am not one of the people who generates their income from Medium or from selling writing or marketing courses through Medium. I am someone who writes what they like to write, and then tries to figure out how to make money from it. I can walk through my process here, how I see Medium in my writing mix, and writing business models that work well with Medium.

Please let me know if any of these sound awesome, boring, confusing, or if you’d want me to elaborate on a topic or remix it to a different angle.
