Jonnie Park has recorded over 300 episodes of his podcast, Fun with Dumb. Even though it’s one of the most consistent, disciplined, parts of his practice, he still wonders if it’s worth the effort. He knows his podcast isn’t the most viral thing he could be doing; it doesn’t get the most reach.
While the podcast comes with its own commitments—showing up weekly, managing the team, finding guests, production costs—it also pays off in unusual ways. Beef creator and director Lee Sung Jin is a listener of the podcast, and signed Jonnie to work in the writer’s room for the next season of the show. (That link is to a particularly good episode.)
If you’re doing you, and find a way to show like-minded people your work, interesting things will happen. People will knock on your door. You just might not be in control of when and how—which means finding other ways of sustaining yourself until the right moment happens.
