Centuries ago, clocks were advanced technology. To the members of the Qing dynasty that ruled China from the Forbidden City in Beijing, clocks did more than just tell time and help them organize their day. These very rare, well-decorated, ornate, devices represented status and wealth. Some clocks could even be wound up and play music or a show with figurines.
In the present moment, clocks are completely ubiquitous. They are common; in fact, you could simply look at your wrist, your phone, or at practically any electronic screen near you and be able to tell the time.
Comparatively, having a large, unscheduled, block of time is more valuable. Some people may only feel this way on vacation. You will not find a clock in a spa. In an era marked by minutes and hours, it’s really nice to lose track of time, be spontaneous, and forget that clocks even existed.
