Unsticking

If a work gets stuck, and you need to unstick it, the best way to do it is almost always to make it smaller and simpler.

What’s keeping it from launching now, this instant?

What’s essential that you need to add? (vs. What is just a smart way of saying, “I’m scared”?

What can you do without?

You need to be ruthless here. Even one simple, extra, “It’ll just take 5 minutes!” could be too much inertia.

Compromise and prioritize, with the goal of unsticking.

P.S., I didn’t want to write this post, because I felt like I wrote it before. Something about how an extra layer of complexity ends up being too much, no matter how thin, to break through. If you find it, please send me a link! (Update: found it!)

P.P.S., See “Complete your operation in seconds.”
