When you’re exploring a new direction in your career, you are bound to experience confusion. It is a particularly painful, vulnerable, emotion.
You may experience an emotional instinct to reach out and fall back into the familiar. All of a sudden, the old, familiar, well-trodden path doesn’t look so bad anymore. At least you have a sense of what you’re getting yourself into. You know the people and they respect you.
There will be nothing stopping you from going back, and falling back into old patterns, unless you remember why you set out for a new direction in the first place.
Maybe you’ll find that the grass wasn’t greener after all. But at least you’ll have tried it for yourself and you will know.
