The next time you prepare for a job interview (or sales call, important meeting, etc.), take a few minutes to recall previous job interviews and note the common questions. Anticipate some new upcoming questions and write them down.
Record yourself answering each question out loud. Listen to your answers.
How does each answer sound? What can you do to change it so that it fits the context of the job interview better?
Do you need to work on delivering the answer differently? Do you need to speak slower? Cut out some unnecessary details?
Rewrite or edit the answer two or three times, perhaps even more. However many you need to feel good.
Once you’ve rewritten the answer, rehearse it. (Practice makes perfect!)
Effectively, you are conducting a mock interview with yourself—but also putting yourself in the perspective of the interviewer.
If you want a second opinion, and if there’s enough time, you can send the recordings to someone you trust and ask for their feedback as well.
