True progress can be measured by the number of times the words, “I wish I did this earlier,” tumble out of your mouth.
Sometimes, these words come with a sense of regret at the time lost not having this in your life, or perhaps even stupidity at how easy this other way is. If only you tried it sooner. But I’m genuinely happy now whenever I try something new.
It’s also usually worth paying attention whenever you hear someone describing an experience like this.
Some things I recently tried, that I wished I had tried earlier:
- Video courses from people I trust
- Listening to audiobooks
- Meditating (with the Headspace app)
- Therapy
- Blogging every day
- Living outside of the country I was born in
- Writing and publishing a book
If it’s been a long time since you’ve said these words, maybe it’s time to try something new. It could be big, it could be small, whatever you feel like. At the very least, you’ll have a chance to open your mind, break some patterns you didn’t even realize you were stuck in, and even create some of your own luck.
