If you set out to be an author, the key part of your job is to write your own opinions, referencing others for confirmation. If you want to write books, the key part of your job is to research and write books. 

Here are other parts of the job:

• Promote and sell books
• Build relationships with agents and publishers
• Speak at conferences
• Appear as a guest on shows and podcasts

While the other parts of the job are all great things to do, they’re not the main thing. Not unless you want to change your job title to be a book promoter, manager, speaker, or guest.
