Many TV shows hire writers. These writers work together to discuss what they want to accomplish with the show, characters, and episodes. They also share what they’ve noticed and what has caught their interest.
Each writer pitches ideas, writes and edits scripts, and in the process turns them into stories that, hopefully, stick with us. As different writers join and leave the team, the show’s vibe also changes ever so slightly.
That’s a good metaphor for what’s happening in your mind. Imagine there is a writer’s room in your mind. Everything you experience is being discussed. Most of it is boring, but every day, something happens enough to catch their attention.
They are constantly interpreting what they see; when you experience a difficult moment, one writer pitches a story about how unfair an experience is, while another pitches a story about how this is a simple misunderstanding, and still a third is already pitching a sequel and how a happy ending might look like. No wonder there is so much chatter. The writers have a lot of work to do.
(Meditation helps you create a space for them to meet and talk.)
Here’s the good news: the writers have a boss, and that’s you. Which writer’s story is right? Whoever you decide to agree with. And there is always more than one story.
More good news: if you don’t like the show the writers are working on, you can always let them know, and you can hire a new writer from another show that you do like. You do that by reading, and reflecting on your life.
