A few days ago, I observed how my work either felt like playing defense or offense in a sport. I wrote, “Saving money, living gently and slowly, and minimizing risk feels like playing defense… Getting in motion, creativity, and shipping work feels like playing offense.”
I am in the thick of a season where I feel I have been playing a lot of defense. I am reminded of a few important ideas:
Making money is important, how you spend it is equally so.
If your ship has a hole in it, plugging the hole is much more important than deciding where to steer it.
You can get a lot further playing offense when you know you have a strong defense you can rely on.
