Good friends, communities, and families do more than just support each other. They enjoy being around each other and getting to know each other more.
Everyone knows they don’t have to be there. That’s what makes it more special. When someone is “bringing the energy,” they are deciding not just to support a project, they are looking for openings to enjoy the experience more. It’s how meetings turn into moments, and presentations turn into parties.
It might not even start off selfless. Maybe it’s about what you need to enjoy something. Here’s a simple, every day, example: I once brought a plate of cheese, nuts, and cold cuts from a pantry to a meeting near the end of the day, because I was starving. My team and I shared a laugh about how I’d custom created a charcuterie platter.
There was an opening that I’m only seeing in hindsight: what if I brought enough snacks for everyone next time? Maybe it’d work, maybe it wouldn’t. Either way, there was a moment to create enjoyment for everyone.
Instead of looking to support someone or a project, choose to enjoy them instead.
