Robert Frost on uniting your hobby and vocation

Good things happen when you find the Overlap. Here’s an excerpt from a poem by Robert Frost (via Jim O’Shaughnessy) that describes the Overlap very well:

My object in living is to unite
My avocation and my vocation
As my two eyes make one in sight.
Only where love and need are one,
And the work is play for mortal stakes,
Is the deed ever really done
For heaven and the future’s sakes.

Will you risk taking the joy out of your hobby, for a chance at expanding it into something that will make an impact on somebody else’s life?

Is your hobby strong enough for you to introduce this pressure to it?

Most people have plenty of fun playing rec league basketball. Do you need to go to the NBA?
