Creative enfeeblement

You and I are using AI. Maybe a lot, and that involvement is only increasing. One of the consequences of using it so much is relying on it, potentially to the point of our minds growing feeble. A useful question to ask: What would you do if it disappeared tomorrow?

Would you be able to get along with your day, albeit with less efficiency?

Or would you be completely in the dark, and need to learn all of the skills you’d outsourced? What habits and practices can you depend on to create and deliver value?

What technical skills and exercises do you have to generate your own creative ideas?

At the extreme of enfeeblement, you get the people in WALL-E, whose lifestyles have made it so they’re not able to walk on their own two feet.

If you depend on having AI double check everything, or come up with ideas for you, that’s what you’re setting yourself up for. You need to be able to work without it, just in case, the same way you need to be able to do simple math in case you can’t use a calculator (or aren’t in a situation where it’s appropriate).

The ideas of independence and sovereignty are the opposite of enfeeblement.
