A place is a tool. The library helps you focus and work. The gym helps you work out. Your home helps you relax and unwind.
A nice restaurant is a tool for you to get together with friends and family, share a meal, and create a new experience.
If you walked into a nice restaurant, opened up your laptop, and started working, you might feel weird. That’s because a nice restaurant wasn’t designed for work. It won’t have Wi-Fi or cellular connection, it won’t have outlets, and it won’t be quiet.
The other people who use the restaurant for its intended purpose—to get together and share a meal—will enforce the tool’s purpose, and also subtly (or overtly) signal to you that you’re making the tool less effective for them.
Whatever you want to do, there is a suitable place for it. If you want to improve how you approach your work, finding the right place is a good way to start.
