The big thing about frugality is deriving value for money.

If we have to stay at expensive resorts – we would like to take our car along so that we can scout out lower cost local restaurants and activities.

If we are looking for a new home – we would like it to be on a single level with fewer rooms and “things”. Sure, we would like it to be in a very good neighbourhood.

If we are looking for new clothes – we would like to dispense with the older ones first. And giving away used clothes is not easy!

If we want to buy a new car – something smaller, safer with a very good and efficient 24x7x365 road side assistance scheme, which usually means, buy a popular brand.

If we have family over from wherever in the world – it is better to shift to a resort with them, instead of stressing ourselves.

If we fly, sure, Business Class.

But our concepts of wasting money are different. A very good wine – at home, tastes better, and is usually genuine too. Music – invest in best of breed stereo systems instead of going through security and crowds. Travel – why on expensive weekends when the lower cost Tuesday flights work much better for us – and airports are less crowded too.

Most of all – why be what our children want us to be? We value our autonomy too.
